Philadelphia 76ers star James Harden calls team’s president a ‘liar’ amid trade rumors

     The NBA offseason has been full of drama and surprises, but none more shocking than the public feud between Philadelphia 76ers star James Harden and the team’s president of basketball operations, Daryl Morey.

     Harden, who was traded to the 76ers from the Brooklyn Nets in January 2022, has reportedly requested a trade to the Los Angeles Clippers after declining a contract extension offer from the 76ers. However, the 76ers have not been able to find a suitable deal for the 10-time All-Star and 2018 MVP, and have instead expressed their intention to keep him for the upcoming season.

     This has not gone down well with Harden, who unleashed a scathing attack on Morey during a promotional event in China on Monday. Speaking to a crowd of fans, Harden said:

“Daryl Morey is a liar and I will never be a part of an organization that he’s a part of. Let me say that again: Daryl Morey is a liar and I will never be a part of an organization that he’s a part of.”

     Harden’s comments were captured on video and quickly went viral on social media, sparking a lot of reactions from fans, analysts, and former players. Some criticized Harden for being disrespectful and unprofessional, while others sympathized with his frustration and desire to play for a contender.

    Morey, who was the general manager of the Houston Rockets when he acquired Harden from the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2012, has not responded publicly to Harden’s remarks. However, sources close to the 76ers have said that Morey is still hopeful that he can mend his relationship with Harden and convince him to stay in Philadelphia.

      The 76ers are coming off a disappointing season in which they lost to the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference semifinals after blowing a 3-2 lead. They have one of the best players in the league in Joel Embiid, who won the MVP award last season, but they have struggled to find the right pieces around him.

      Harden, who averaged 26.9 points, 7.9 assists, and 6.4 rebounds per game last season, is widely regarded as one of the best scorers and playmakers in the league. He has led the league in scoring three times and assists once in his career. He has also been to the NBA Finals once, with the Thunder in 2012, but has never won a championship.

     The Clippers, who are reportedly Harden’s preferred destination, are also looking to bounce back from a disappointing season in which they lost to the Phoenix Suns in the Western Conference finals. They have two All-Stars in Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, but they have been hampered by injuries and inconsistency.

     The NBA preseason begins on October 2, while the regular season starts on October 24. It remains to be seen whether Harden will report to the 76ers’ training camp or force his way out of Philadelphia before then.
